The Secret to Creating a Successful Brand (by Gabriel Valo)

Last year I attended a seminar by Robert Kiyosaki and one of his advisors summarized branding into a simple equation: Branding is when the Promise equals the experience. That’s right. It is as simple as that.

People are not going to be judging your company by the shape or colour of your corporate logo or whether you are using fine quality printer ink on your letter head (I apologize in advance to all the sales people out there in the ink and printer industries). But they are going to be judging whether what you proclaim your products or services do is what they have experienced.

If you are a start-up entrepreneur and are branding your company as a company that provides the best customer service experience, then you have got to put all stops to make sure they darn well receive the best service experience possible. If you are branding your company to deliver pizza in less than 30 minutes, then you better darn well ensure that the pizza reaches your customer’s door in 25 minutes.

At the end of the day, it all boils down to integrity that you have built with your clients. They are only going to keep coming back because of the promises you have made to them and have kept.

So start today. Identify what you think you would like your company’s unique selling point to be and work hard to ensure that that is what your clients experience. As long as you keep doing that they will keep coming back for more. Now that’s the best way to build a brand equity and establish customer loyalty.

Let me know what you think.

1) Positive interactions – Remember to keep engaging your customers and your clients. Positive interactions will result in retaining a valued customer, increase revenues, build loyalty, and most importantly, strengthen a brand

2) Consistency – Be consistent in providing the best service possible to your customers. Ensure that you do all it takes to consistently provide the best customer experience to create loyal customers. Be consistent also in the standards of your services and products. Do not ever let the quality drop. Most importantly, make sure that your brand meets and delivers the promise it makes to the customers.

3) Credibility – One of the best ways to know if you or your startup is credible is when people start referring to you by word-of-mouth where satisfied customers speak well of you informally or formally through testimonials.

4) Authenticity – Are you real? People can tell a faker from a mile away. Always be sincere and honest in your dealings with your customers or clients. Do not ever cheat them.

5) Trust – Ask yourselves this question – Do my customers trust me? Provide evidence in the form of facts or statistics to make the consumer believe in the benefits offered.

6) Loyalty – What are you doing to create loyal customers? What are you doing to ensure that they keep coming back? As long as you are meeting the factors stated above, you will be building up the loyalty your customers have towards your brand.
